GREEN ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM:
INTRODUCTION: Green
& clean environment imply absence of pollution and a better quality of
life. The environment is our Living source. Green living is a lifestyle that
struggles to create balance in preserving and protecting Earth’s natural
resources, habitats, human civilization and biodiversity. M22 Doctors’
Foundation takes the initiative of green activities that promote climate friendly
and other environmental purposes.
M22 Doctors’ Foundation Intent to Implement Varieties of Projects under “GREEN ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM”:

Tree Plantation Project:
Introduction:
In Bangladesh only 6% of the area is now covered by trees and even that number
is now decreasing due to lack of knowledge and ignorance of the community
people. Trees provide us fruit, fuel, wood, shelter, shade, soil fertility,
oxygen for breath, medicine, noise reduction, animal feed, protection from
natural disaster and so on. The
community tree plantation aims to ensure the economic, environmental and social
benefits to the people. It increases the food production, firewood, fodder,
fertilizer and wood which release pressure from the forest. It helps to create
cool places for relaxation and recreation. The planting of trees in vacant
lands helps to increase biodiversity. As the tree grow, the nature of the
habitat will change. In community tree plantation, trees and their associated
vegetation serve as a source of food and shelter for a variety of animals and
birds. As the biodiversity grows, a natural habitat grows for all population.
That helps to increase the number of populations and creates ecosystems.
The followings are the categories of Tree
plantation: [a] Large trees: providing oxygen & shed, conserving water,
soil & Providing food- shelter for the birds and small animals, [b] Palm
tree plantation: Thunder-storm protection, [c] Road side plantation: to protect
the soil erosion, [d] Timber tree: providing wood, [e] Fruits tree: Providing
food & nutrition, [f] Flowers tree: Community Gardening, School Garden, [g]
Horticulture Nursery :It means any grounds or premises on which nursery plants
are propagated, grown or procured for resale and held for sale throughout the
year; [g] Herbal plantation: Medicinal tree, [h] Native plant species
restoration garden: To develop a demonstration garden or landscaping plot using
native plant species to encourage restoration of the local natural habitat and
water conservation.
M22
Doctor’s Foundation intend to work on this issue to increase the Tree
plantation in the community.

Safe Drinking Water project:
Despite significant progress over the past
few decades, there
are wide inequalities in the availability, quality and prices of safe drinking
water among urban, rural, hilly, wetland, drought and coastal people. Before
industries era, people had mostly used dug-well, rainwater, pond & river
water for drinking, cooking and domestic use. Later on, the urban people
received piped supply water and the
rural people used to rely on tube wells & dug wells for safe
drinking water. But nowadays none of
these sources are safe as contamination, pollution is very high and the water
level has dropped drastically. In a nutshell, problems of safe drinking water
are due to salinity(costal), Arsenic (many districts), iron, pollution, water
borne disease, long distant travel to collect drinking water (in char and hilly
areas), no central piped
drinking water supply network in rural areas in Bangladesh.
Many
initiatives are taken at different parts of the country as pilot by the
government through the help of global financier and NGOs to provide the safe
drinking water using different cost-effective technologies. Some of the
cost-effective water purification technologies are, gravity-based water
purification, solar paneled water treatment, ceramic filter, mechanical
filtration, membrane filters, ion exchanges, desalination, RO method, UV light,
multi-stage purifiers, removal of arsenic with plastic bottle,
electrocoagulation, nano technology etc.
M22
Doctors’ Foundation
also intent to work on Safe Drinking Water under GREEN ENVIROLMENTAL
PROGRAM. The Safe Drinking Water
projects include the “Tube-well Sinking & Rainwater Harvesting Projects”
a. Rain-water harvesting
project for Safe drinking water:
To
get the safe drinking water, there are many options among the city dwellers,
but unfortunately this opportunity does not exist among rural residents. The
rural residents depend on the natural sources for drinking water, like
tube-well, dug-well, river, pond, fountain & rainwater. The loopholes of
these sources have been discussed earlier.
Rainwater
harvesting is becoming increasingly popular around the world. Whilst many
people collect roof-top rainwater for non-potable uses such as watering the
garden, washing the vehicles, water for livestock & small irrigation, a way
to replenish groundwater levels and more people that are turning to rainwater
for potable purposes such as drinking, cooking, and bathing.
Rainwater
must be treated prior to drinking, making filtered rainwater no different than
city-treated or well water that runs through our home's filters. Drinking
rainwater without filtration is not only unbeneficial, but it can be hazardous
to our health.
Two
key steps you can take to improve the quality of rainwater are to boil it and
filter it.1 Boiling the water will kill off pathogens. Filtration, such as
through a home water filtration pitcher, will remove chemicals, dust, pollen,
mold, and other contaminants. In some cases, these two processes can be
achieved at the same time, and other techniques require these to be performed
separately.
b. The
Tube-well sinking project
for
Safe drinking water:
A significant number of rural people
are using polluted water from the local pond, canal or fountain due to
unavailability of the safe drinking water source. As a result, suffers from
chronic water-borne diseases. Even the shallow-depth tube-well water contains
excessive iron, arsenic and other harmful minerals that should not be used in
home. Safe water can only be accessed through hand pumps connected to deep bore
wells, which bypass these shallow layers of groundwater.
M22 Doctors’ Foundation aims to take initiatives for the Tube-well sinking project to ensure the safe drinking water in the rural community.

Community Cleanup, Reusing & Recycling Project:
The environment is our home. If it is
not healthy, we will not be healthy either. When people misuse the environment,
this affects us all. If water is polluted, if the air is full of smoke and
chemicals, if food contains poisons, people (and plants and animals) get sick.
Community
cleanup brings
volunteers together to clean, repair, and improve public spaces or other areas
that have been neglected, vandalized, or untidy. Community cleanup projects can
come in many forms: [a]. Trash and litter collection from the sea beach, river
& urban canals, [b]. Beautification projects., [c] Flower planting
incentives. Villages are generally more difficult to clean than the modern
neighborhoods in the city as they lack the facilities.
House-hold
items Reusing project: M22
Doctos’ Foundation will collect all kinds of household items those are in good
condition and no longer needed. Our foundation collects a
range of house hold items from various sources &
the donated items will be stored in a warehouse and renovated for reuse. Lastly the donated items will go directly to support people who need
it. Below is a list
of items that we collect from the community: Clothes, Shoes, Handbags, Sports
Equipment, Kitchenware, Pots & Pans, Jewelry, Paintings, Ornaments,
Childrens Toys, Baby Items, Homeware, Hand Tools, Bird Cages, Photo Frame, show
pieces.
Recycling community waste is a big step on the road to sustainability for our immediate environment. There are several creative and imaginative methods in which community recycling projects can help to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle waste materials. These practices can’t be done by personal effort. M22 Doctors’ Foundation will take the initiatives of creating these recycling plants in our different communities. These are: [a] Recycling of kitchen garbage, [ b] Community Plastic Recycling Projects, [c] Community Textiles Recycling Projects, [d] Community Electronic Waste Recycling Projects, [e] Recycled Art Installations.

[04] Organic Fertilizers, Bio-gas plant & Pesticides
projects
Bangladesh is endowed with fertile soils
and favorable climatic conditions for producing various crops throughout the
year. But with heavy use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on fields, soil
quality is poor and leads to low yields. As a result, the crops &
vegetables can be the reason for health hazards when contaminated with
different chemicals such as pesticides. Adding organic fertilizer &
pesticides in cultivation is a very effective solution to this issue. Organic
fertilizers are derived from living things such as animals and plants.
Most common are manures, bone meal, fish meal, vermin compost etc. Nowadays,
Organic fertilizer and vermicompost has become very popular among the farmer
communities in Bangladesh and getting optimum production.
A biogas plant is a facility that provides
oxygen-free conditions where anaerobic digestion can occur. Simply put, it’s an
artificial system where you can turn waste into sustainable energy and
fertilizers, with positive effects on the environment
M22 Doctors’ Foundation intent to sponsor the training program for small farmers on how to make and use organic fertilizers, vermicompost and pesticides.
